Live Theatre Back in Teaneck
On Saturday morning April 11, 2015, REJOTI Productions
hosted a 4 One Act Live Community Theatre Fest featuring the works of New
Jersey playwrights Gail Wynn Huland El, Shirley Johnson, Vanessa Spencer and
Veona Thomas at the St. Paul’s Auditorium – Teaneck, NJ.
“That Seat Is Mine” written by Gail Wynn Huland El, kicked
off the fest with a comedic look into church etiquette when ‘Sister Lawanda
finds someone in “her” seat’. Cast included Renee Coley, Reggie English,
Theodore English and Dorothy Graham.
Set in modern time with power point mixed media, the one
woman monologue “Sojourner Truth/Michelle Obama” written and performed by
Shirley A. Johnson followed with resounding applause as a hypothetical view
into the thoughts of Sojourner Truth about FLOTUS Michelle Obama was presented.
What would you do if an older friend of yours was dating
your son/daughter? The next one act play “Oh Hell No!” answered that question
with spectacular praise. Written by Vanessa A. Spencer, a friendship and
love-ship was tested and thoughts were provoked. Cast included Bernice Ellison,
Nicole S. Kelker and Jesu J.D. Mills.
Veona Thomas’ “Heavenly” about the relationship of a duo of
angels sent to earth on assignment concluded the set of original works. Cast
included Shernetta Harris, Nicole S. Kelker, Niko Sanabria-John and Michelle
Thomas-Hanson with dance performances by Dance Evolution, Terry Lee King of
Jewels’ Earthbound Angels, REJOTI choreographer and staff technician Timothy
Douglas Thomas and Maisha Johnson of the New Hope Adult Praise Dancers – East
Orange.
After a long hiatus, REJOTI founder/producer/director Veona
Thomas has come back with a vengeance bringing live theatre and the art of
storytelling back to the community.
“I am most grateful to the Creator for the return of my
health and strength. Special thanks to all of you who are supporting our return
to theatre production.” Thomas stated.
